Monsoon blues
North India is yearning for rain. Monsoon is delayed by 15 days but the intermittent shower has increased the humidity quotient and so the unbearable weather is creating havoc. Already we were trying to protect ourselves from the third wave of corona but now cases of skin allergies, dengue and malaria have also increased in number. Complications are numerous.
Monsoon has become a necessary evil, without it crops are damaged, and with it diseases strike. Anyways, every problem has a solution. Tell me how many of you take diet to save us from water-borne disease? Actually, it is virtually none. We believe in curing it rather than taking a diet rich in nutrients to prevent us from various monsoon diseases. Since skin is very sensitive and comes in close contact with the environment so we need to nourish it by having vitamin E in plenty and it also acts as an antioxidant. The common source of vitamin E is Pumpkin seeds, Almonds, peanuts and soybean, sunflower and safflower oil, and red bell pepper.
Vitamin C is also very important as it is a water-soluble antioxidant that is mainly found in tomatoes, amla, guava, lemon, and all citrus fruits. It helps in digestion, is gut-friendly, and helps in the absorption of iron in our body.
Omega 3 is a vital nutrient. The most common food sources are canola oils, walnuts, flax seeds, spinach, kale, flax seeds, chia seeds, basil, and beans. Try to find ways to incorporate these items into the daily diet.
Have dairy products like Chhach (buttermilk), ghee 2 tsp in the entire day.
Fresh fruits are good sources of nutrients and also they hydrate the body and keep us safe from viral infections. Watermelon, banana, papaya, oranges, kiwi, and mausami are extremely beneficial.
Vitamin A is good for eye infections. It is found in carrots, GLV( green leafy vegetables).
The liver is the powerhouse in our body. It manages our macronutrients. Protein is one such macronutrient that is a wonder medicine for many ailments. Its been found in pulses, lentils, and whole grains. Do you know guava has the highest content of protein and vitamin C ? So next time doesn't miss the opportunity to grab it from the fruit vendor.
Some of the homegrown herbs are mint, tulsi, and Coriander leaves. They can be added to the meal. They provide freshness and reduces anxiety.
Last but not least keep your body well hydrated to flush out toxins and it keeps BP normal.
Clean your face with plain water at least 3 hrs of intervals during the daytime. Apricot, Buttermilk, watermelon, and cucumber act as a coolant so have these in plenty but keep your food allergies in mind.
Enjoy the rainy season but protect yourself from waterborne diseases by taking minor precautions. Pimples and skin rashes have become very common so avoid frequent consumption of fritters as they are fried and oily food is not recommended. Even frozen nonveg food should be consumed by checking the best before date.
Roadside food if not cooked hygienically then diarrhea and acute gastroenteritis will force you to admit to the hospital due to dehydration and stomach infection. So beware of momos and panipuri sold by street vendors.
Eat wisely is your prerogative, leave the rest to your body to adapt. The truth is a nutritionist reads your body metabolism and chalk your balanced diet accordingly so always share the minutest of your metabolic changes while you consume food.
So eat healthily and stay safe. ๐☺️
